The Southwest Florida Rheem Team has renewed its $10,000 commitment to underwrite two $5,000 scholarships as the Title Scholarship Sponsor of the Rotary Club of Fort Myers South’s 27th Annual Scholar-Athlete Awards. This is the ninth consecutive year the Southwest Florida Rheem Team has supported the program.
The Southwest Florida Rheem Team was formed more than ten years ago, and is comprised of twelve Rheem HVAC contractors who work together to contribute to the local and global community. In addition to sponsoring the scholarships, the Rheem Team hosts an online People’s Choice Scholar-Athlete Award, where the winner receives an iPad.
Rotary South Scholar-Athlete Awards Chairman Rob Scharlau said, “The Rheem Team’s commitment to the Rotary South Scholar-Athlete Awards has made the difference in the lives of many young student athletes over the years. It’s exciting that they have continued their partnership to help recognize the best and brightest scholar-athletes in Lee County.”
Scholarship nominations are submitted by 17 Lee County area high schools. Each high school may nominate one top male and one top female, who are senior varsity letter winners with a minimum GPA of 3.2 and involvement in school and community activities with demonstrated leadership characteristics. Nominees are interviewed and winners are selected by a selection committee comprised of Rotary South members.
Rotary Club of Fort Myers South will honor the 34 nominees, and announce the scholarship recipients and other award winners at its 27th annual Scholar-Athlete Awards banquet on May 8, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza in Fort Myers.
